چکیده

Antibiotic activities of culture filtrates from twenty filamentous fungi, isolated from wood submerged in tropical freshwater habitats, were tested against a pathogenic strain of Candida albicans. These taxa were fermented separately in liquid medium in pure culture, while another set was fermented with the addition of a fluconazole-sensitive strain of Candida albicans in mix-culture. Fermentation was performed using potato dextrose broth at 25°C for 28 days, with diffuse day light and 240 rpm agitation. Culture filtrates were tested against a fluconazolesensitive and two fluconazole-resistant strains of C. albicans. Anti-fungal activities against strains of C. albicans were not exhibited by any culture filtrates obtained from pure culture fermentation. In mix-culture fermentation, the culture filtrates of an undescribed species of Chloridium and Sporoschisma mirabile produced anti-fungal activities against all three strains of C. albicans tested.

Cellulase Production Under Solid-State Fermentation by Ethanolic Zygomycetes Fungi: Application of Response Surface Methodology

Background and Objectives: Cellulase is an important enzyme with multiple applications in industries, including food, laundry, pharmaceutical, textile, pulp, paper and biofuel industries. Solid-state fermentation (SSF) is a method for cellulase production, which includes several advantages, compared to submerged fermentation. In this study, cellulase was produced by three filamentous fungi, i.e...

L-isoleucine Effects on Yield and Productivity of a Batch Fermentation Process for Mycophenolic Acid Production by Penicillium brevicompactum

Mycophenolic acid (MPA) is an antibiotic and immunosuppressive agent has been produced as a secondary metabolite of some fungi species such as Penicillium. In the present work, in the first step, mycophenolic acid production was performed in a fermentation process by Penicillium brevicompactum MUCL 19011 in shake flask using a base medium. Obtained results demonstrated the maximum MPA productio...

Chryscandin, a novel peptidyl nucleoside antibiotic. I. Taxonomy, fermentation, isolation and characterization.

A novel antifungal antibiotic, chryscandin was found in the culture broth of a strain of fungi. The producing organism was subsequently identified as Chrysosporium pannorum. The antibiotic obtained as colorless needle crystals (C20H23N7O6, MW 457) is active against Candida albicans and Gram-positive bacteria, but it is ineffective against filamentous fungi and Gram-negative bacteria. Acute toxi...
